GLASGOW AND MADRID-EDUCATED DAVIES LECTURES ON TWO HUNDRED YEARS OF "CUBA... WOMEN, WRITING AND SOCIETY"

Catherine Davis, who oversees the Spanish and Portuguese department at Manchester University, will examine Cuban literature and poetry from the perspective of the female novelist and poet. Her talk will be entitled, "Cuba 1800-2000: Women, Writing and Society" and should be interesting as she, according to the promotional literature we were sent, 'has dedicated many years to research relevant literary figures from Latin America and Spain, and has a specific interest in female literary figures.'

Today's speaker got her degree and PhD from universities in Madrid and Glasgow respectively. After what promises to be an educational evening, drinks will be served. Address: Canning House. 2 Belgrave Square, SW1. Nearest tube station: Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly line). Admission: £8, £3 for students, or e-mail... to arrange admission for only £5, as one of the editor's guests.
