Welfare State International (WSI) - an artist led organisation based in Cumbria
is to have an auction of international works related to "the dead." The WSI is a
centre for training in new cultural forms, with its studios, gallery,
accommodation and information technology and it provides an international
research base within the context of Ulverston. Mark Lamarr will host today's
auction event along with auctioneers, Bonhams, which is hoped to raise £100,000.
Anthea Rathlin-Jones, the
organisation's marketing manager, said, 'We are delighted Mark Lamarr has agreed
to host the auction for us. This is a major art event creating a bursary for
artists at our award-winning building, Lanternhouse. With his help we are hoping
to raise enough money to allow many artists to take advantage of the bursaries
