February 9 2002, Saturday, 7.45pmQEH HOSTS SINGER, FARIDA & THE IRAQI MAQAM "MULTI-INSTRUMENTAL" ENSEMBLE, THAT WILL PLAY CLASSICAL MUSICFarida, whose singing voice is
somewhere between that of Linda Ronstadt and Maria Callas, will perform along
with a six-piece ensemble band. Ensemble leader, Mohammad Gomar, will play the
spike fiddle. Wissam Alazzawy is the santur and tabla player, whilst Mohammad
Azad will play the ney and reed flute. Percussion will be the responsibility of
Abdullatif Saad with an ud and khalledji, whilst Ehab al Azzawy will look after
the riqq and tambourine side of things.
The qanun and zither will be played by Jamil Al-Asadi. Tickets range from £12.50 to £17.50, which can be reserved by phoning 020 7960 4242. Note there is a £1.50 surcharge on credit card bookings.
