May 11 2002, Saturday, 10am-4pmARTIST FROM BOSNIA, MERSAD BERBER'S MANY BAROQUE MASTERPIECES IMPRESS MANY IN MAYFAIR-BASED GALLERYMersad Berber, in his early sixties,
is a very talented Bosnian artist who uses a very Renaissance and Baroque style
of art to produce true masterpieces. Over 50 of his paintings have been on show
since the middle of April and today is your last chance to see his very
impressive selection of oils and mixed media on canvases. Many horses feature in
his paintings – including the very large "Black Monography : The Hitched-up
Horse" (164cm x 200cm at £32,500). Impressive busts and statues also feature –
in a dedicated fashion, either by themselves or together with a horse, flowers
or other. They are dedicated to both true and mythological characters – Goya and
Orpheus, to name just two.
We liked so many of the paintings on
show, and it was hard to choose our favourite three but eventually we settled
for, "In The Blue" (45cm x 60cm at £9,875), "In The Blue II" (46cm x 60cm at
£9,500) and "Renaissance Motif I" (50cm x 70cm at £11,500). We also liked the
"Grand Polyptych" (114 x 195 cm at £25,000), a painting that illustrated six
scenes – some brightly highlighted - that included horses and people in various
poses. E-mail... for more information, if required. Location: Albemarle Gallery,
49 Albemarle Street. London, W1. Nearest tube station: Green Park (Jubilee,
Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
