July 13 2002, Saturday, 3pm and 8pmBALLET, COMEDY, DANCE, PLENTY OF TEA, SWIMMING, UNUSUAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT AND VIDEO SCREENINGS REVEALED IN ENTERTAINING AUSTRALIAN VAUDEVILLE "ECCENTRIC ACTS" AT GREENWICH THEATREThanks to a press release received
from the organisers of the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, we
went along to a mid-week performance of the play, "Eccentric Arts.".. '- a
joyous Australian show packed with wry visual gags' it said. Sure enough,
Broadway Sue and Gentleman Jeff - the only two performers in the show, soon had
the audience laughing. From the opening 'G'day' to some excellent conjuring and
visual effects, it was not long before we were asking ourselves, "Where did he
spring from?" And before the wise ones amongst you shout, 'from down under', let
us tell you... we are not so sure! And wiping the tears from our eyes did not
help either.
In short you, and any children (who get in for half price) you might have, will be taken on a 75-minute whizz of journey that will include - in alphabetical order: ballet; conjuring; comedy; dance; juggling, music; tea and biscuits; swimming; video and many, many visual effects. One minute we were watching ballet and the next we were on the beach, thanks partly to Carle Polke's music and sounds but also to the visual effects presented by the two talented performers, skilled jugglers, et al. Thank goodness, we did not go along on the busy first night, as we might not have heard as much as we did - on the account of all the members of the audience clapping and laughing. Admission: £10 to £14. Telephone the box office on 020 8858 7755 for more information, if required. Location: Greenwich Theatre, Crooms Hill, London, SE10. DLR Station: Cutty Sark at Greenwich.
