DAVID SAWYER'S OILS HIGHLIGHT ARCHITECTURE OF VENICE (ITALY) AND LONDON IN "A TALE OF TWO CITIES" EXHIBITION AT PANTER & HALL ART GALLERY

Artist David Sayer, born in 1961, is having another show of his works in Mayfair. The Canterbury College of Art graduate is much acclaimed for his brush strokes, which he has turned to good use here to produce a selection of art that depicts English and Italian architectural scenes. London is well 4highlighted with the elongated 12" x 24" picture "Late Afternoon, Westminster" (£1,100) showing the river in the foreground with Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Westminster in the background. At the same price - though somewhat smaller at 6" x 8" is, "Evening Sky, Power Station at Battersea." Our favourite painting, when we visited earlier in this month, was the already-sold, "St Paul's from Ludgate Hill" (£1,750) - a 24" x 24" busy street scene - in the shade, highlighted with the cathedral gleaming with reflected sunlight and a blue sky in the background. Somewhat similar, you could say, was the picture of Venice, "Grand Canal, Summer Morning."

It comprised a brightly lit cathedral dome, alongside other buildings on two canal sides. There was water nearly everywhere. This is quite naturally... on account of the picture being of Venice and principally featuring one of the city's wide canals. Closer to home we also saw, "Sunset, St Nicholas Church, Tooting", "Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast" and "View from the Embankment." Prices for the oils on board are from £450 to £2,500. When we were there, all but three of the paintings - on the top floor, had been sold, so you had better be quick if you want some London or Italian property for one of your living-room walls! Today is the last day for the exhibition. E-mail... (see website) for more information, if required. Location: Panter & Hall Gallery, 9 Shepherd Market, London, W1. Tube station: Green Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
