August 17 2002, Saturday, 1pm-9pmRECENT ART GRADUATE, LOUISE LAWTON - BASED IN GUERNSEY - DISPLAYS "NEW WORK" AT GALLERY LOCATED IN VENN STREETToday is your last chance to see
Wimbledon School of Art graduate, Louise Lawton's exhibition entitled, "New
Work." According to the press release we picked up at the well-attended preview,
late last month, 'Lawton's charcoal and gesso works are original, precise and
have already become highly desirable.' It continues, with an in-depth look at
her artwork which consists of, .'..grouped figures viewed from above set against
a plane colour ground of either stark white or slightly worked charcoal grey.
Lawton's compositions are cool and immaculate. Varying in scale from small to
large and in view from close-up to far away, her figures are commonly organised
in swirling patterns as if according to some instinctive form of pack behaviour.
When positioned from afar Lawton's
figures appear to be constructed from a number of impressionist strokes.
However, when closer in we can observe every detail in each figure in perfect
reproduction. There is a sense of the voyeuristic as we observe this transient
humanity objectively from above.' We particularly liked her charcoal and gesso
on board picture, ."..and so on...No 30" (115cm x 105cm). Go along and see what
you think. Telephone 020 7720 0955 or e-mail... (see website) for more
information, if required. Location: Clapham Art Gallery, Venn Street, London,
SW4. Tube station: Clapham Common (Northern line).
