January 25 2003, Saturday, 7.15pm-7.30pm for 8pmHEAR LANGDOWN PLAY PIANO MUSIC, COMPOSED BY COMPOSERS FROM FRANCE, GERMANY AND ITALY PLUS - FROM ENGLAND, ENJOY MUSIC BY WELL-KNOWN COMPOSERS, BRIDGE AND ELGARYou chance to hear pieces by Claude Debussy and Francis Poulenc (both French) as well as Robert Schumann (German), Domenico Scarletti (Italian) and two famous English composers, Frank Bridge and Edward Elgar. Somebody who has organised a group of "student" music enthusiasts to go along is teacher and hteL subscriber, Gordon Beal. There follows an extract of his e-mail message, which he recently sent to just over 80 members of the Kensington International Society (KIS) e-mail group. 'Meet Gordon and friends on Saturday 25 January between 7.15 and 7.30pm at Finchley Road tube station (Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines, Zone 2) near ticket office to go to Netherhall House, Nutley Terrace, NW3, for a concert (starting at 8pm) of piano music given by Christopher Langdown.'
It continues, 'We will hear music by Langdown himself and by Scarlatti, Poulenc, Debussy, Schumann, Bridge and Elgar, so the programme will be very varied. Netherhall House is a residence for male university students. The extremely reasonable entrance fee of £2 (two pounds) for students with ID and £3 (three pounds) for others includes drinks in the interval and at a reception after the concert!' All sounds like such fun, that we plan to go along ourselves.
