January 22 2003, Wednesday, 7pmIN PREPARATION FOR ST. VALENTINE'S DAY... DEBSKA PRESENTS HER TRANSLATED LOVE POETRY FROM POLAND, TO BE RECITED - IN ENGLISH - BY CZAJKOWSKIThe Polish-English translator, Anita Jones Debska, is making a return visit for one of her presentations - on the run-up to St. Valentine's Day - at the centrally located Polish Cultural Institute. The event entitled, "Fire In My Heart", will consist of translated Polish love poetry. One thing we can remember, from several classes at secondary school, is that there are many types of love including, as the Cultural Centre's brochure puts it, .'..between lover and beloved, husband and wife, parent and child, love of the body and love of the spirit...' So, expect an evening full of poetic variety, both in tone and in metre! And not only this, but the poems have been selected from 500 years of writings by Polish poets.
So you will come away with many differing viewpoints about what love really is all about. Peter Czajkowski will recite the poetry, which will be in English though, no doubt, will feature the inclusion of a few Polish expressions and excerpts, here and there. Admission free, but it is essential that you reserve your place. E-mail... or telephone 0870 774 2900 (10am-4pm) to reserve your place or for more information, if required. Location: Polish Cultural Centre, 34 Portland Place, London, W1. Tube station: Oxford Circus (Victoria, Northern and Bakerloo lines). http://www.polishculture.org.uk/
