TAKE A TRIP TO PUTNEY AND DISCOVER BRAZIL, CHINA, GRENADA AND NON-DOMESTIC ANIMALS (FISH, HORSES, SQUIRRELS) THROUGH REVEALING ART AND VIDEO INSTALLATIONS BY FIVE ARTISTS - THE AEZAP GROUP

You are invited to come along to the last day of one of the above Putney "Open Studios" exhibitions in the London SW15 area. The exhibition we are concentrating on here has been given the name AEZAP - after the initials of the first names of the artists participating: Ariadna Capasso; Eva Dumpling; Zoe Gilmore; Anny Han and Phelim Kelly. As you enter the door of the house in Putney, you can appreciate some of Phelim's latest drawings: "Bottles and Plants on Table"; "Bottles, Fruit, Kettle and Plant on Table"; "Female Bust, inspired by work by Jim Dine"; "Male Bust, Chair & Table"; "Study on Fruit and Vegetables" and "Turned Table with Still Life." Then, just ahead of you - as you enter the house's main hall - his drawing "Hollow" catches your eye. It is hanging just at the entrance of the main room, which is, in fact, two rooms joined together. Each of the rooms are distinct in colour: one, green and the other, orange - which come together to produce a formidable backdrop to display the artistic talents of the several artists, whose works are on display. Give yourself plenty of time, as there is much to appreciate; walls are covered with oils on large canvases, drawings and art on a variety of paper and even two video installations. Let us look at the works produced by Ariadna, born in Argentina and living in New York City. Several years ago she gained a Master of Fine Arts, from the University of Colorado. Since then she has turned her attention to a number of video productions. Two of them are being shown today. In her own words, they comprise, 'Works on video, La Conquista, 10 minute video in collaboration with Damian Keller (sound), Amazon Melodie, 1.min 24 sec. in collaboration with Gonzalo Macias (sound).' The former uses images of corn, crosses, sky and animals in order to, as Ariadna puts it, 'revisit the theme of the conquest (La Conquista) the period of the first European expeditions to America in the XV century and the subsequent invasions of the said continent. One of our goals is to reformulate the history and heritage of Latin America within a global perspective.' Czech, Eva Dumpling, on the other hand, presents, "Projections Of My Mind" drawings of animals & life created using oil crayons. They feature numerous scenes of nature - some figurative and some abstract. They include: hearts; horses; leaves; night sky and peacock feathers. Eva has also done a large canvas of a brightly coloured horse, in a black background. Essex-born Zoe states, 'I will be displaying recent interpretations of nudes in oils on canvas. Above all I take pleasure in experimenting with different styles and techniques, as my own style is constantly developing. I live in Leigh-on-sea, where I am studying for A Levels and I am planning on taking a Gap Year before going to University to read Modern Languages.'

On this occasion Zoe has five of her oil paintings on display. They are spread across three walls, as well as on part of the floor (between two large mirrors you cannot miss - as you enter the room - as they bring your shoes to the attention of all present). Two of her paintings have, in the first week of the exhibition, already aroused considerable interest. They are "Nude on Leopard Skin" (£370) and "Seated Nude" (Not For Sale - NFS). The former has an amazing range of realistic skin tones whilst the latter beautifully captures reflected light on the body. Her other canvases are: "Girl in a Basque" (£390); "Girl on White Duvet" (NFS) and "Reclining Nude in Mirror" (£120). Anny - who is a web developer, with a large multi-national - is quoted as saying, 'I am going to exhibit some watercolours of landscapes, flowers and a few Chinese characters. I hope you will enjoy them.' And for your enjoyment her works have been done using Chinese inks or Watercolours. When you visit you will see: "A Bay in Grenada" (£120); "A Purple Dream" (£200); "Chinese Bamboo" (£300); "Four Seasons (set of four: £120 each) and "Sexy Rose" (£200); The latter is on one of the green-coloured walls, all by itself, helping to project the rose's green stem and red petals. Phelim - an English teacher in Putney - presents, "Phrasal Verb Art", on canvases & mirrors. In addition to this, and his works already mentioned, Phelim's other art include drawings and paintings using acrylics, charcoal and oils. On display are: "Nosey Lips"; "Patchwork Jugs"; "Teapot in Room"; "Where's the Lead?" and "Window behind Plant." There is also a preview of works by artist and designer, Danny, from mainland Europe. Ten of her colourful plaster or terracotta works are on show, each painted in a variety of colours: gold, green, red, turquoise and yellow to name several. We recommend you look out for her other creations and designs coming to next year's show. Finally, we recommend you to visit and enjoy the art, in company of some of the artists. Admission free. Location:..., off Dover House Road, Putney, London, SW15. Bus 430, which stops nearby, runs between Roehampton and West Brompton and crosses Putney Bridge. This regular bus service passes near to Putney Bridge tube station (District line) and Putney BR station. We suggest you get off on the third stop on Dover House Road, and walk the short distance to the venue. Alternatively you could travel by train to Barnes BR station and make your way southwards, along Dover House Road. For more information on the other studios exhibiting, simply pick up a copy of the Putney "Open House" brochure from Putney School of Art or from Putney Library.
