July 26 2003, Saturday, 11am-4pmLAST DAY TO SEE "THEY CAME" EXHIBITION AT HIRSCHL GALLERY, WHERE SIAN BONNEL - PHOTOGRAPHER FROM WEYMOUTH - DISPLAYS HER NEW PHOTOGRAPHS, TAKEN IN HOLLAND AND CLOSER TO HOME, DORSETLast month, we visited - for the first time - the Hirschl Contemporary Art gallery in Cork Street, where we saw an interesting exhibition of, what initially appeared to be, out-of-this-world photography. On closer examination and after talking to the photographer we discovered the images where in fact close-ups of glowing jelly moulds. Yes, Sian Bonnel, is showing twelve photographs, each with a limited edition of five, which were all photographed in Dorset, where she lives. One of her pictures, referred to as "Dutchlight no. 21" was taken in Holland. All works are c-type, mounted on aluminium, 58cm x 100cm and cost £1,300 each.
Today is the last day of the exhibition, so we
suggest you go to "They Came" as we have been already and liked what we saw!
When we phoned, earlier this week, eight of the pieces had already been sold including
three on your left, as you enter the gallery, and the one we like... the green jelly. As
for the future, Sian plans to work with other subject matter and materials, including
grottos, lights and old socks. Telephone the gallery on 020 7495 2565 for more
information, if required. Location: Hirschl Contemporary Art, 5 Cork Street, London, W1.
Tube station: Green Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
