September 20 2003, Saturday, 11am-5pmAFTER LUXEMBOURG... YOUR CHANCE TO SEE NEW YORK GALLERY'S "AUTUMN MEMORIES": PAINTED SCENES OF LONDON'S PARKS, AS WELL AS CITYSCAPES IN FRANCE, HOLLAND, ITALY & VIETNAM - BY VIETNAMESE ARTIST, PHAM LUANToday is the last day to see the two-week exhibition of recent works by Vietnamese artist, Pham Luan, who is in his late forties. It has been organised by the New York art gallery, Judith Hughes Day. We met Judith - along with the artist - shortly after the show opened, earlier this month. The exhibition, comprising 27 scenic canvases, spread over two floors, is entitled, "Autumn Memories: Pham Luan's Paintings of Hanoi and Beyond." As this title suggests, and according to what the promotional leaflet states, .'..Pham Luan paints the ancient streets of his hometown, Hanoi, as well as other special places he admires: London, Venice, Amsterdam and Giverney.' And, like the artist's travels, this exhibition has also travelled and been seen by many - before it heads back to the Big Apple and state of bluebirds and roses. People in Luxembourg recently had a chance to appreciate the artist's strong, broad paint strokes and numerous shades of green!
These shades of green is what we liked in his
picture, "Strolling in Green Park, 2003." It is an oil-on-canvas (60cm x 90cm),
priced at £3,000, and shows a young couple with pram, along with a seated figure in the
park nearest to London's Cork Street. A perfect match for this masterpiece, on anyone's
wall, would probably have to be the identically sized and already sold, "St James
Park 2003." Also an oil-on-canvas, it reveals a scene from another of London's
beautiful parks. Prices for Pham's other works range from £2,200 up to £13,000. Go along
to discover other worlds as well as scenes of our own world, here in London. Admission
free. Telephone 020 7734 7010 (during exhibition times) for more information, if required.
Location: Arndean Gallery, 23 Cork Street, London, W1. Tube station: Green Park (Jubilee,
Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
