LAST WEEK TO VIEW "SUMMER SHOW" - AT ALBEMARLE GALLERY - FEATURING URUGUAYAN SCULPTOR AND ARTISTS FROM ARGENTINA, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA, CANADA, JAPAN, NORWAY, SPAIN, WALES PLUS COUPLE FROM BELGIUM, FRANCE, HOLLAND, SCOTLAND AND SEVERAL ARTISTS FROM ENGLAND, GERMANY, ITALY & USA

It was mid-July when we attended the opening reception for the annual summer show at the Albemarle Gallery, a true mecca for the type of art that Spanish people call "hyper-realismo" - in other words, very life-like! Once again, the commercial gallery's two directors - Tony Pontone and Anthony Stancomb - have brought together a wonderful array of international artists, with a variety of sculptured and painted works for sale. Let us browse what is on offer, starting with Pablo Atchugarry, who is a fine sculptor from Uruguay. Pablo has four sculptured works on show which range in size from 45cm x 37cm x 19cm - for a £5,750 sculpture, done using Pink Portugal Marble - up to a towering 240cm x 46cm x 35cm sculpture (located at the back of the gallery), using identical pink marble, priced at £32,500. His two other sculptures are made using Statuary Carrara Marble. His fellow South American... the Argentinian, Lily Salvo's has three oils on canvas, which range in price from £4,875 to £13,500. The much-acclaimed Mersad Berber, who we have written about before, is showing four works of mixed media on canvas, which range in price from £8,500 to £15,000. Canadian, Heather Graham's five works on display feature fruit, nuts and vegetables and range in price from £850 each, for "Naked Pear I" and "Naked Pear II", up to £1,750 for "Artichoke." Shoichi Akutsu, on a similar edible, still-life vein with four oil-on-linen works that range from £1,850 for "Sweetgum Fruit on Glass" up to £4,275 for "Walnut and Physalis on Glass." "Resting" (£5,875 and "Solitude" (£17,650) are the titles of two displayed oil-on-canvas works produced by Norwegian, Eirik Lütken. Spaniard, Antonio Cazorla has four works on show, including two priced at £5,500: "The Dream" and the already-sold "Fragility." His other two oil-on-canvas works are "Pears" (£4,250) and "Shells" (£4,750). Welshman, Harry Holland has two distinctive works on the wall: oil on panel "Window" (71cm x 58cm) at £6,000 and double-the-size oil on canvas "Handstand" (152cm x 102cm) at £16,000.

Other artists whose works appear are: Stefan Eyckmans and Werner van Hoylandt (Belgium); Elena Gran and Michel Gran (France); Julien Landa - whose large oil on canvas "Grapes" (£19,500) is on your left, as you enter the gallery - and Ingrid Smuling (Holland); Graham McKean and Robert Saunders (Scotland). Visitors to the gallery, in the Mayfair part of London, will also be able to appreciate works by a trio of English as well as German artists: Jeremy Barlow (whose oils feature scenes of France, Italy and Spain), Maxwell Doig and Christopher Thompson from England plus - from Germany, Michael Engelhardt, Manfred Hönig and Michael Lassel. In addition to all of these there are works by a dozen other artists, six from Italy and six from the USA. From Italy, the artists are Ubaldo Bartolini, Mario Fani, Franco Fortunato, Matteo Massagrande, Angelo Palazzini, Raphaella Spence (Italy). The titles of their works are in Italian, except for the latter, Raphaella Spence's two oils on canvas: "The Actors" (£9,850) and "Prisoners of the Sun" (£10,750). And to discover: "Mountain Springs" (done using cherry wood, walnut, black stain, slate and gold leaf); "Music with Spice" (£32,000); the beautiful "Forest Reflection"; "1800 Kitchen Work on Venus (One Man Party)" acrylic on panel; "Woman in Pink Sweater" oil on linen and the oil on canvas "Down by Madison" you view the works by the six artists from the USA... Jeffrey Brosk, Gary Erbe, Mark English, Tyson Grumm, Richard Piloco and Alex Zwarenstein, listed respectfully to the six works above. Needless to say, there is plenty to at this gallery and you have a whole week left in order to appreciate the works by a wide range of excellent international artists.
