ARTIST, PETER CURLING'S SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION, "RECENT PAINTINGS: VENICE, TIPPERARY, THE TURF," WITH SCENES OF HORSE RACING, IRELAND, & ITALY, CLOSES AFTER TWO WEEKS AT GALLERY IN CORK STREET

Most of the 84 catalogued works (including 36 extra un-catalogued pieces) of art that comprise Irishman, Peter Curling's current - and soon to close, one man show have already been sold. That, one might think, would make the act of writing about it a futile exercise. But not so! The main reason being that some of the most beautiful pieces still remain on the gallery's walls, ready to be snapped up by any art enthusiast, especially one interested in horseracing. That is what we found when we visited the gallery twice - at a private view one evening and the next day, during a lunch break - in the exhibition's second and final week. So, cutting to the chase, visitors will have a chance to appreciate plenty of horse riding scenes as well as Ireland, with places like Ballydoyle, Dundrum, Thurles and Tipperary in general coming under the artist's orders. Italy is captured wonderfully, with scenes including, "The Grand Canal from the Accademia" oil on canvas (60" x 30") at £25,000 and "The Grand Canal from Casa Steccini" oil on canvas (30" x 22") at £12,000 - both, as yet we believe, unsold.

Our favourite has to be another, as yet, unsold masterpiece: "Stormin' Norman, Gaining Lengths" oil on canvas (30" x 60") which is priced at £25,000. If we could afford to do so, we would be storming in there ourselves to acquire it, before the official time the exhibition is to open on the last day (a dickie-bird told us, that some staff would be in an hour or two before it opens at 11am, the opening time advertised on the door). Go along - if only to witness the spectacular riding that has been captured on canvas, before the remaining pieces are put on display in an exhibition in Ireland. Admission free. Location: The Gallery in Cork Street, 28 Cork Street, London, W1. Tube station: Green Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
