November 10 2003, Monday, 10am-7.30pm (continues until November 15 2003, Saturday, 11am-4pm)

LAST WEEK TO SEE "PHILIPPS 2003" ART EXHIBITION: CLARE'S WATERCOLOURS OF DUBAI, ITALY & BAHAMAS; NICKY'S OILS OF CUBA & NORFOLK AND SUSIE'S OILS OF FLOWERS, FRUITS & VEGETABLES... ALL WORKS BY MEMBERS OF PHILIPPS FAMILY - MOTHER & TWO DAUGHTERS - AT ARNDEAN GALLERY

Earlier this month, Fine Art Commissions installed a collective art exhibition - comprising works by three members of the same family, in Cork Street's Arndean Gallery. The artists, all members of the Philipps family; are Susie (b. 1937) and daughters, Clare (b. 1961) and Nicky (b. 1964). Susie - in her mid-sixties, has the largest portfolio on show: 42 works in all, which range in price from £450 each for "Two Strawberries" (5' x 6') and "Redcurrants" (6' x 7') up to £4,200 for the beautiful, "Hydrangeas and Agapanthus" (32" x 24"). Each of Susie's daughters has 28 works on show. Her elder daughter, Clare's collection of mainly watercolours, range in price from £180, for "Venetian Palace" (6" x 6") up to £1,400 for the, "Santa Maria Della Salute, Venice" (14" x 20") watercolour. Slightly cheaper and slightly larger - though, already sold - is her, "Looking across to San Giorgio Maggiore" (£1,200, 14' x 21'), which we liked. As for Clare's sibling, Nicky, she studied Fine Art at London's City of Guilds School of Art. Her 28 works on show range in price from £225 each, for a pair of pencil on paper, "Havana Sketches..." up to £8,800 each, for a pair of oil on canvas, "Midnight..., Havana, Cuba" (46' x 36') paintings. Our favourite is her, "Calle Brazil, Old Havana, Cuba" (16' x 12') which, at £1,500, is good value. It shows figures and buildings in a narrow Cuban street.

When we went along, one evening last week, we travelled half way around the world - from Cuba to Dubai, in a matter of minutes. And this was a week or so after all Concordes had been grounded! Godfrey Barker, the Arts Correspondent for a number of international newspapers and magazines is quoted as saying that, 'All Philipps are artists to watch.' And, according to at least one English language book that some hteL subscribers have used, we watch things that move and look at things which do not move. So, why don't you discover new grounds and new territories, without having to fly out of the country. Simply head for Cork Street's Arndean Gallery in London's Mayfair, "to look at" the Philipps' works of art by Saturday mid-month, the same day when you will probably be able "to watch" them being taken away by their new owners! Failing this, head for Fine Art Commissions in Knightsbridge at a later date, to purchase what remains. Fine Art Commissions is a company - founded in 1997, by Sara Stewart - based in Walton Street and which represents over 80 clients. E-mail the company at... or telephone 020 7734 7010 (during current exhibition) or 020 7589 4111 (after current exhibition) for more information, if required. Location of current exhibition: Arndean Gallery, 23 Cork Street, London, W1. Tube station: Green Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
