December 13 2003, Saturday, 8pm-11pmENJOY BARNDANCE WITH "LONDON BARNDANCE COMPANY" PLUS CALLER & LIVE MUSIC FROM BERNARD CHALK AND KELLY'S EYEYou can enjoy viewing and listening to London's sites and sounds in many ways. But, you will probably agree, it is often better to take an active part in what is occuring. And one fun way of getting involved is through dance. Not by dancing, where you have to endure weeks or even months of learning complicated steps, but by immediately joining in without having necessarily danced the dance before! And this is where barn dancing comes in, and the venue used by the London Barndance Company. 'Lively American-style barndances ' the leaflet we recently picked up states that the dance involves, a 'caller [who] walks everyone through the figures before each dance so you can join in even if you have never danced in this style before.'
And where better to do it than on the fine
floor of the Kennedy Room, at Cecil Sharpe House which is home to the, 'English Folk Dance
and Song Society,' a society which organises many wide-ranging dance classes, displays and
workshops. As for the London Barndance Company, founded in 1982, it organises lively dance
sessions on one Friday or Saturday a month. This month it is the turn of, Bernard Chalk
and Kelly's Eye. So, come along for a very lively Saturday evening of fun on, what is
reputed to be, one of the best dance floors in the country. Admission on the door: £7,
rising to £8 in 2004 (concessions: £5, rising to £6 in 2004). E-mail... for more
information, if required. Location: Kennedy Hall, Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road,
London, NW1. Tube station: Camden Town (Northern line).
