December 13 2003, Saturday, 7.30pmENJOY BACH'S CHRISTMAS ORATORIO WITH QUORUM CHAMBER CHOIR AS IT PERFORMS CHRISTMAS CONCERT BY CANDLELIGHT AT ST. LUKE'S CHURCHSt Luke's Music Society is bringing a selection of readers together along with the Quorum Chamber Choir for a very memorable Christmas Concert, by candlelight. In addition to Bach's Christmas Oratorio, concert-goers will have a chance to appreciate Christmas carols by Britten, Howells, Ireland, etc. If violinist, Lara St. John, were present - to play those pieces by Bach - we would be along to the venue in south-west London at the drop of a hat but, unfortunately, we do not think this wonderful Canadian talent will be, having returned to New York - where she now lives - after her UK stint with the London Baroque Ensemble in September.
Go along and enjoy the music and singing. In
addition to which there is a series of readings to be given by the actor-directors,
Garrick Hagon and Lisa Ross. All in all, we presume an enjoyable evening is to be had at,
what is being billed in the society's annual programme as, '
beautiful musical sounds
around its ['majestic Victorian church'] gothic arches.' Tickets: £7.50 (concessions:
£5) available by post from: St Lukes Concert Series, St Lukes Community Hall, 194 Ramsden
Road, London, SW12 8RQ (telephone 020 8673 9285) or, in person from, Northcote Music Shop,
155c Northcote Road, London, SW11. Location for concert: St Luke's, 194 Ramsden Road (at
junction of Thurleigh Road), London, SW12. Tube station: Clapham South (Northern line).
Buses: 319 or G1.
