December 17 2003, WednesdaySPITALFIELDS WINTER FESTIVAL EVENT, "AN EVENING IN FRANCE," WITH FRENCH SONGS - COMPOSED BY DANIEL-LESUR, DEBUSSY, MESSIAEN & RAVEL - PERFORMED BY BBC SINGERS, AT SHOREDITCH CHURCHAt a venue that, in the last couple of days, has seen community carols - performed by the pupils from three schools, as well as two sessions of bell-ringing, comes another event. It is the turn of the BBC Singers, conducted by Nicholas Kok, to perform another event at this year's Spitalfields Winter Festival (taking place from December 9-19, 2003). This evening's programme of songs, all with a French flavour, is: Daniel-Lesur's "Le cantique des cantiques;" Debussy's "Trois chanssons de Charles d'Orleans;" Messiaen's "Cinq rechants" & "O sacrum convivum" and Ravel's "Trois chansons."
