*HowToEnjoy.co.uk RECOMMENDED*January 18 2004, Sunday, 9.30am-6pmANNUAL AUTRE FOIS: "VIVE LA FRANCE" EXHIBITION: LE JOUR DERNIER TO PICK UP FRENCH ART, BOOKS, CUISINE, INFORMATION, LANGUAGE-COURSES, PROPERTY, WINE, ETC., PLUS TOURIST INFORMATION ON CORSICA!Once again, the "Vive La France" exhibition is on. In fact, this year marks its fifth anniversary! And, "autre fois" (once again), we are listing, "le jour dernier" (the last day) of its three-day stint at Kensington Olympia's exhibition venue! Once inside the large exhibition centre, there are many opportunities to pick up and/or purchase French art, books, cuisine, information, language courses, property, wine, etc., for people interested in the tastes, entertainments and cultures of one of our closest mainland-Europe neighbours. One of our interests is art. And, that is why we are interested in the contemporary art on show at the exhibition's, "Le Village des Artistes." One of the press releases, that publicises the exhibition, states, 'If you've always aspired to owning your own piece of contemporary art, be it a sculpture, painting or objet d'art, le Village des Artistes is the place to visit. With prices from £80 upwards, this is a great opportunity to snap up an original piece, direct from the artist - prices are even negotiable!' Then, about some of the artists present, the release goes on, 'Art comes to life as the artists create oeuvres d'art before your very eyes....
...Watch Arthur Yang's paint-brushes glide
across the canvas in a live painting taking place throughout the three days of the show,
appreciate Valérie Rauchbach's use of black volcanic sand in her interpretations of
classic artworks such as Mona Lisa. Meet Lily Masson - daughter of surrealist movement
founder André Masson, néo-impressionist Charles Garo, and 80 year old Maniglier, who
spent three years as an apprentice to Henri Matisse. These are a few, among a host of
artists, who will be at the show.' Tourist boards from the country's twenty-plus regions
are on hand to provide useful information to potential visitors. What about Corsica?
Information from the Corsican Tourist Office - one of the 100+ exhibitors in attendance -
is also available. As for your purchases (as well as for admission), we presume that
paying with euros is optional, but it might be an idea to have the correct amount in
sterling
just in case! Admission: £15 (or £12, if you book in advance, on 0870 902
0444). Tube station: Kensington Olympia (District line).
