March 20 2004, Saturday, 11am-6pm (photography lecture: 2.30pm)

BEFORE AND AFTER LECTURE ON PHOTOGRAPHY ENJOY SCENES OF CORNWALL, ISLE OF WIGHT, ETC., PLUS WORKS BY ARTISTS FROM AUSTRALIA, GERMANY, NEW DELHI, PARIS, ETC., AND EVEN WORKS FROM HANOI-BASED  GALLERY - PLUS, GALLERY CLOSER TO HOME, GLOUCESTERSHIRE - ALL ON SHOW WITH MANY OTHERS AT VERY AFFORDABLE ART FAIR IN LONDON PARK

Today is the second last day for the four-day art fair, "The Affordable Art Fair" (AAF), which once again is being held in the middle of Battersea Park. It was thanks to Escape Bar and Art, that mailed us a printed invitation, that we went along to the Thursday evening reception. The current, "Spring Collection 2004," - as the fair is being promoted, on the front of their brochure - is your chance to see works on display from 130 art galleries. All exhibits are by different artists to the last exhibition, which took place last Autumn. The exhibiting galleries include: Apparao Galleries; Art First; Clapham Art Gallery; Hard Ground Printmakers; Pascal Allouard Contemporary Art; Raquelle Azran Vietnamese Art and Springtide Gallery. Let us look at each of these, in a little more detail... Apparao Galleries' have works by New Delhi artist, Siddharth at £1,250 as well as half-a-dozen works by another Indian, P.G. Dinesh, at £350 each. Art First is showing Bridget MacDonald's scenes of the Isle of Wight. Our favourite is the oil on linen, "Lighthouse and Tree October 2003" (50cm x 50cm, £2,495). Clapham Art Gallery has some typographical works by the German artist, Hugh Mendes, which - being a writer and editor - we liked, even though the two on display where inspired from the obituary pages of one or two newspapers. Hard Ground Printmakers, based in South Africa's Cape Town, have prints on show which feature animals and figures. Pascal Allouard Contemporary Art has a variety of art and artistic media on show, and is strong in works by French and German artists. We mistook some scenes of France for Spain, when - in fact - they were fast-moving figurative scenes from Avigon (Southern France) and were produced by Paris-born artist, Philippe Mesager. Go along to exhibition stand H2, and discover more! Raquelle Azran Vietnamese Art, is a gallery based is Hanoi and we learnt has figurative works, ranging in price from £1,000 to £2,000.

Last, but by no means least, is the Bristol-based, Springtide Gallery. This Gloucestershire gallery features scenes of Cornwall alongside aboriginal art from Western Australia. Needless to say, this weekend you can enjoy the entire World in a Battersea nutshell. And, should you wish to continue any of the fair's artwork experiences afterwards, you can easily do so... should you have up to £2,500 to spend! And, before or after any of these artistic experiences, you can attend a free lecture on photography at 2.30pm.
