May 11 2004, Tuesday, 7.30pmWIDELY-TRAVELLED MOSCOW OPERA COMPANY, "HELIKON" PRESENTS FRENCH COMPOSER, GEORGES BIZET'S "CARMEN," SET IN SPAIN'S SEVILLEIt was Georges Bizet - who lived in France during the nineteenth century, who composed the musical, Carmen. Set in Seville, it is now a renowned musical opera telling the story of a factory worker and her lover, Don Jose. This evening, the much-acclaimed Moscow company, "Helikon" (formed: 1990) will perform the opera on the first of three nights at London's Peacock Theatre. In the last decade and a half Helikon have performed and entertained numerous audiences in continents on both sides of the Equator (i.e. Europe and South America). Definitely an event well worth attending - everyone must have heard some of the music before and will want to hear it again!
