June 15 2004, Tuesday,LANDSCAPES OF CLARE, CONNEMARA, CORK, DUBLIN, KERRY, WATERFORD & WICKLOW PLUS BLASKETT ISLANDS, AS PAINTED BY TRAVEL PAINTER, PIP TODD WARMOTH - ON VIEW AT HIS, "JOURNEYING AROUND IRELAND" EXHIBITION AT TODD WARMOTH GALLERY BEFORE MOVING ON!Pip Todd Warmoth is exhibiting 30 works - all of them oil on board - which encapsulate scenes from just over half-a-dozen Irish counties, in the Republic. Views within the counties of Clare, Connemara, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Waterford and Wicklow are on show today, the last day in fact of of Todd Warmoth's current exhibition, appropriately called, "Journeying Around Ireland." The press release, for this fine exhibition of Irish scenery, gives a good introduction to the artist, his works and experience. It begins, describing him as, .'.. a young painter whose classical style of painting has become a rare and unusual talent in this day of conceptual art and sensationalism. A graduate of the Royal Academy, he has spent the last twenty years working as a travel painter, depicting exotic and faraway places such as Mongolia, Tibet, Peru and Guatemala.' We had already been to a Todd Warmoth exhibition before. It was at the Chelsea-based, King's Road Gallery, where we enjoyed some of his detailed depictions of Asian buildings, lakes, seascapes, etc. And on this occasion you, too, will be able to appreciate some of the artist's talents at recreating groups of people, seascapes, etc. One of our favourite seascapes is his, "Trawler in the foreground of O'Brien's Tower Clare," (150cm x 100cm, £14,000). An excellent, detailed view of Ireland's western county, just south of Galway! County Clare can be further appreciated with scenes of jockeys - both mounted and unmounted, at the Flapper Races. On the east coast, Dublin city's Four Courts & Temple Bar along with Dublin county's Killiney Bay have been imaginatively captured with his remarkable glazed painting skills, which the press release further describes... 'Glazing is an important part of Todd Warmoth's technique and can create a beautiful effect on colours.' When you do visit, be sure to take time to appreciate the artist's sensitively-lit depictions of Kerry's Dingle Bay and Waterford's Annestown Beach.
As the release suggests, they, 'are brimming
with romance and spirit, and the painter's natural ability to empathize with his
characters renders the collection truly sensitive and emotively evocative. The intensely
luminous quality of light in the new work adds depth and atmosphere.' With
"depth" and "atmosphere" being keywords, you can feel them both
present when you take in the views both towards, and from, the Blaskett Islands. Islands
which, before attending the exhibition's press preview late last month, we knew nothing
about! Along with the Blasketts, visitors will also be able to discover scenes of
Connemara and Wicklow, as well as Cork... which can boast at having the highest priced
painting - £14,800 for "Looking Down the River Cork" (also the largest on view,
at 122cm x 180cm)! A well-reflected architectural wonder, you might think, when you see
it! Prices for the other works range from £2,400, for "The Cliffs of Moher"
(40cm x 51cm). So, before you start - or even plan, any journey to Ireland, first visit
Pip and Tanya at the Todd Warmoth Gallery! The exhibition moves on to the Kings Road
Gallery (from mid June 2004), then on to Dublin's Molesworth Gallery, this coming October!
