August 1 2004, Sunday, 11am-5pmART ENTHUSIASTS INTERESTED IN BARCELONA, CUBA, EGYPT, LIBYA, NEPAL, SAN FRANCISCO, SORRENTO, TUNISIA AND/OR TUSCANY SHOULD HEAD FOR LAST DAY OF GROUP EXHIBITION PROJECT – ORGANISED BY MAGDALENA RUTKOWSKI, FROM POLAND - AT MENIER GALLERYMagdalena Rutkowski’s (see www.magdalena.3.ukonline.co.uk/) eight-day exhibition project, "Catch By The Eye Save In The Heart," which is currently running at the Menier Gallery, comprises works by over 20 artists. The artists are: Annabelle Armstrong; Trinidad Ball; Vitali Butescue; Bogdan Flalkowski; Gigi; Malcolm Griffiths; James Harvey; Julie Higgis; Mark Hunt; Colette Hunter; Fiona Long; Nick Lott; Hugh Mathias; Sim Hock Neoh; Lizzie Patterson; Rebecca Pearson; Marcia Phillips; Felicity Prazak; Simon Siara; Clare Stiles and Joan West. Whilst there are too many to write about individually, we shall look at several and mainly those that have their own websites. According to the exhibition’s brochure, if you are interested in the cultures of Egypt, Libya, Nepal and Tunisia you are encouraged to look at the work of Felicity Prazak (see www.1stchoiceart.co.uk). Black and white coastal scenes, that are located on one of the walls in the gallery’s basement, have been photographed by Mark Hunt (see www.adifferentlight.org). Fiona Long (see www.fiona.experiencecurve.com) has a dozen works on show, ranging in price from three at £350 up to two at £1,500. Eleven of her works are oils, with the twelfth – and one of the highest priced items – being a multimedia installation. On the opposite wall to the photographic works by Mark Hunt, are about a dozen photographic works by Lizzie Patterson (see www.lizziepatterson.com). Her works feature colour as well as b&w scenes of Cuba, each priced at £175. Malcolm Griffiths (see www.malcolmgriffiths.com), with years of design and publishing experience under his belt, has interesting design-centred works on show. Art enthusiasts looking more for European scenes - like those of Barcelona, Sorrento and Tuscany - might like to see the works produced by Colette Hunter, an artist who started painting simply as a hobby. We counted eight of her mainly oil works, ranging in price from two at £275 up to one at £450. Collectors might like to note that her works are held in private collections in Australia, Canada and Greece as well as here in the UK. You can join them, for quite a reasonable cost!
In addition,
without leaving the topic of Barcelona, the Catalan-born artist,
Trinidad Ball, interested many of the visitors, at last Tuesday’s
private view, which we attended, with her eight pictures of contemporary
realism. Go along and find out more (or visit Wimbledon Village’s Churzee Gallery, where some more of Ball’s oil on canvases can also be
seen). Turning our attention to the other side of the world, we liked
Annabelle Armstrong’s large, "San Francisco Bay" (1,500cm x 1,200cm,
£750) – just one of four wonderful large seascapes, priced between £600
and £1,500, that are located downstairs. Finally, other works we liked,
include the enamel, "One Fish in the Sea" by New York-born Julie Higgis
and Nick Lott’s three framed works (at £220 each) featuring sand blasted
glass plus bronze & cement tiles and embossed prints. As we said
earlier, go along and discover more about this interesting collection of
works. When you do, you might also like to visit the gallery’s
neighbouring restaurant and/or theatre (within the Menier complex),
which have been acclaimed in the local and national press. Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to August 2004 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
