September 18 2004, Saturday, 11am-4pmLAST DAY TO SEE THREE YEARS OF FIGURATIVE & SCENIC PAINTINGS (WHICH INCLUDE CLOUDS, DOLPHINS & SHOES) - BY PAINTER, POET, SCULPTOR & WRITER, CLARITA ADRA-FARNELL, FROM PHILIPPINES - IN HER "POSITIVITY" EXHIBITIONClarita Adra-Farnell is
no stranger to exhibiting in art exhibitions! She has had two before: one here,
in London and another back in the country of her birth, The Philippines. And we
are no stranger to the artist, having met and talked with her at several opening
receptions, at different art galleries in and around Mayfair’s Albemarle Street.
But what we did not expect was to be walking down Cork Street one day and see
three years of her painted works in one of the galleries we had planned to
visit. Yes, rather than wait for invitations to come in through the post, one of
our many tasks - early in the week - is to go out and return with one or more
art stories. With so many press releases flying around, both through the postal
services and through e-mail, we still prefer the old-fashioned knock-on-the-door
approach. It also gives us a chance to visit some of our favourite art haunts.
The day we visited Cork Street’s "Positivity" exhibition, put together by
Clarita, was no different! What better way to actually see the bright colours
than to have the artist there to explain her uses of a variety of paints, from
quick-drying acrylics to her layered watercolours. Whilst we liked Clarita’s
landscapes, we especially liked her seascape showing a long beach, in the
background, with two happy dolphins in the foreground.
Her picture of eight
shoes also interested us. Each show seemed to suggest a different international
location and a different story. If only the shoes could talk [postscript: yes,
we found out that the shoes do talk - read Clarita's book of poems, and find out
more] ! Any weatherman
would be able to tell us what the clouds are saying. But, according to Michael
Mackie and his blurb on Clarita’s colourful brochure, promoting her exhibition,
‘The cloud paintings seem to produce an instant relaxation on viewing…’ So, for
a relaxing time do go along and see Clarita and her helpful assistants and
discover more about our world – and, possibly, an imaginary world, that only a
poet like Clarita would know how to express.
