October 9 2004, Saturday, 11am-9pm, Party from 6pm (continues until October 10 2004, Sunday, pm)SINGER SONGWRITER, PIERA GULLI – FROM MESSINA, EXHIBITS HER ABSTRACT & FIGURATIVE ARTWORKS IN, "BEYOND THE INVISIBLE" EVENT, WHICH FEATURES FEMALE FORMS, FRENCH-TITLED "DANS LE JARDIN" PLUS TWO, ‘DELICATE AND SENSITIVE OIL PAINTINGS’ OF THAI MONKSThis is the last
weekend to see Italian, Piera Gulli’s Mayfair-based "Beyond The
Invisible" event – an exhibition of paintings, that features both
abstract and figurative artworks. Interesting and original paintings,
including numerous abstracts, several figurative works along with a
French-titled painting plus an artwork with a Japanese feel to it, all
await you in one of the galleries in Shepherd Market. The gallery is
called ZiZi Gallery and the artist currently exhibiting is the singer
songwriter, Piera Gulli, from Messina, a city in the north of Sicily.
The exhibition opened last week and is due to end sometime this coming
Sunday afternoon, so there is still plenty of time for you to visit. To
encourage you even more, there is a party at the gallery, on Saturday,
from 6pm onwards. The artist will be present as will many other people -
including ourselves, along with other publicists - as well as critics,
from the art world! With so many people going along, we suggest you
might bring a bottle of wine, or other refreshment. When we last visited
the exhibition we counted some thirty pictures, which range in price
from two at £500 up to one at £3,000, with nearly half of them at the
£1,000 to £1,700 mark. As for the locations of the pictures, they are
pretty much equally divided between the two floors. On your right - as
you enter the gallery, you will see eight of her varied-sized oils. The
first you will see is "Passion" (£2,700). This painting is situated
quite close to the door, which faces out to the pedestrianised street of
Shepherd Market. Nearby to "Passion" is one of our favourites, "Dragons
And Tigers in Dimension X" (£1,500). For us, looking at its abstract
patterns, it has a Japanese feel about it. Yes, its mixture of reds,
olive greens, browns and blacks all combine to give it an unusual
darkened glow, that would surely seduce and transform any bright wall
that it is placed on.
On a musical note, some
of you might be attracted to Gulli’s "Guardian Angel" – not literally, but to
her painting that bears the title. It shows two figures – one of which is
playing
a stringed instrument, alongside a potted plant. Talking of angels and, as we
are discussing this veiled theme of spirituality, we have to say we really liked Gulli’s delicate and sensitive oil paintings of several Thai monks, which can be
appreciated on the gallery’s lower floor. Individually priced at £650, the two
oils are titled, "Path to Nirvana" and quite simply, "Monks" and show monks in
their traditional orange robes. The former mentioned, shows a monk reading, and
it portrays a feeling of enlightenment whilst the other shows a figure giving
food to three monks, and to us it suggests, fulfillment. Also, on the lower
floor, there is a painting called, "Jupiter" which was the favourite of one of
the other guests, who we talked to at last week’s opening reception. As for more
of our favourites, well, there are two paintings of female forms right at the
bottom of the stairs. They are "Innocence" (£3,000) and "Vortex" (£2,500). We
preferred the latter. But the real question is, what do you think? Go along to
the exhibition – to see and to party, and discover more!
