November 20 2004, Saturday, 11am-6pmTWO ARTISTS, DE FOUW & FREAN – FROM ROTTERDAM & LONDON RESPECTIVELY - EXHIBIT OILS, PHOTOGRAPHY & ILLUSTRATIONS THAT HIGHLIGHT WEDDING IN INDIA & FEATURE FIGURATIVE SCENES WITHIN LONDON & NEW YORK ART GALLERIESWe recently – on
two different days - visited an exhibition in London’s Shepherd Market
which reveals the combined efforts of a pair of artists, Julika de Fouw
and Holly Frean. Some of de Fouw’s works can be seen on the left wall,
after you enter the gallery, whilst some of Frean’s works are on the
right wall. One of our favourites, on this particular right wall – as
you step up a few steps on the gallery’s inside, is, "Looking at Manet"
(oil on board, 40cm x 40cm). It shows a figure looking at, what appears
to be, one of Manet’s paintings. Either side of it, you can see other
pictures, featuring figurative scenes within London and New York art
galleries (so the artist told us!). And, away from Europe and the
Americas, Asia can be appreciated with de Fouw’s works, which highlight
a wedding she attended in India.
Other scenes from India
can be seen on the way down to the gallery’s lower level, where charcoal and
graphite pictures are to be found, alongside photographs. They include more of
our favourites. Namely, "Monkey on Temple" (£380, 25cm x 30cm) and, nearby, a
slightly larger one of a goat, at £400. Go along and discover more, before it is
too late as today is the last day of the exhibition. Frean, though, has another
exhibition at the workshops where she is based. It is on the last Saturday and
Sunday of November, from 10am until about 5pm or 6pm. Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to November 2004 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
