April 30 2005, Saturday, 11am-8pmNEW ARTWORKS IN “2 OF A KIND” SHOW, HOUSED ON TWO FLOORS, WITHIN MAYFAIR’S SHEPHERD’S MARKET: WIMBLEDON-BASED LONDON-BORN ARTIST, EDITOR & PUBLISHER, KANE’S PAINTINGS & PRINTS ALONGSIDE FIGURATIVE BRONZE SCULPTURES BY SOUTHFIELDS-BASED SOUTH AFRICAN SCULPTOR, LOGGIEThis week, Tony
Kane and Sam Loggie are participating in a joint art show, “2 of a
kind,” where each have their own different, and – for the most part –
very distinctive, creative works on show. Wimbledon-based artist, Tony
Kane is exhibiting a selection of his paintings and prints. Other than
working as a painter and printmaker, London-born Kane has worked as an
editor and publisher for Time and Leisure magazine (see website, for
more information on this publication). His prices range from £45 for a
small-sized, unmounted print up to £500 for a framed oil. Kane is quoted
as saying, ‘I love to catch quick and fleeting images of performances of
all kinds whether they be dancers, models, actors or musicians and
translate them in differing medias and sizes.’ Southfields-based
sculptor, Sam Loggie is exhibiting a selection of just over a dozen
figurative bronze sculptures. Her biography - which we picked up at the
gallery, when we passed by on Monday – introduces her as having,
‘studied Fine Art at The Johannesburg School of the Arts before settling
in London nearly 20 years ago. Sam enjoyed sculpturing as a serious
hobby while forging her successful career in public relations.’
It goes on, ‘She left
the corporate world 3 years ago in order to spend more time with her two small
daughters, and took up sculpturing as a profession. She studied at The Slade
School of Art (UCL) and completed a course in Figurative Sculpture.’ Loggie’s
prices range from £580 for, “Surrender,” (length: 35cm) up to £2,500, for
“Resurrection” (height: 60cm). We returned to the gallery on the Tuesday, to the
three-hour private view, that evening and we were surprised to see the large
number of people there. So many, in fact, that we feel we have to go back again…
just to see the works in greater detail and to learn more about the two artists.
