April 13 2005, Wednesday, 1.10pm-2pmHALF-WAY THROUGH TWO-MONTH “28TH LONDON HANDEL FESTIVAL,” MUSICIANS: ALCERS; HARRISON; SCOTCHMER & THOMPSON (“LA FOLLIA” GROUP) IN, “THE ITALIAN LEGACY,” PROGRAMME OF 17th CENTURY & 18th CENTURY MUSIC, FROM ITALYMid-March saw
the beginning of the 28th London Handel Festival, with Laurence Cummings
as Musical Director and Adrian Butterfield as Associate Director. When
the event ends, in mid May, there will have been over two dozen musical
and talk events, which have taken place at either St George’s Church -
in Hanover Square - or at the Royal College of Music’s Britten Theatre.
Early this afternoon there is one such event at the former mentioned
venue. It is a programme entitled, “The Italian Legacy” and features
17th century and 18th century music from Italy. Performing the
fifty-minute concert is a group called, “La Follia,” which comprises
James Alcers (theorbo), Eleanor Harrison (violin), Lucy Scotchmer
(violoncello) and Francesca Thompson (recorder). So, if you are free
this lunchtime, go along and enjoy your sandwiches whilst listening to
classical sounds of the past.
