HALF-WAY THROUGH TWO-MONTH “28TH LONDON HANDEL FESTIVAL,” MUSICIANS: ALCERS; HARRISON; SCOTCHMER & THOMPSON (“LA FOLLIA” GROUP) IN, “THE ITALIAN LEGACY,” PROGRAMME OF 17th CENTURY & 18th CENTURY MUSIC, FROM ITALY

Mid-March saw the beginning of the 28th London Handel Festival, with Laurence Cummings as Musical Director and Adrian Butterfield as Associate Director. When the event ends, in mid May, there will have been over two dozen musical and talk events, which have taken place at either St George’s Church - in Hanover Square - or at the Royal College of Music’s Britten Theatre. Early this afternoon there is one such event at the former mentioned venue. It is a programme entitled, “The Italian Legacy” and features 17th century and 18th century music from Italy. Performing the fifty-minute concert is a group called, “La Follia,” which comprises James Alcers (theorbo), Eleanor Harrison (violin), Lucy Scotchmer (violoncello) and Francesca Thompson (recorder). So, if you are free this lunchtime, go along and enjoy your sandwiches whilst listening to classical sounds of the past.
