May 25 2005, Wednesday, 7.45pm‘GRENADA IN THE 1950s…’ BAIN’S PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER, “EFFIE MAY,” DIRECTED BY WALTON &, ‘INSPIRED BY TRADITIONAL CARIBBEAN FOLKLORE’We are grateful
for a press release - which leads with the enticing geographical timing
of, ‘Grenada in the 1950s,’ – which we recently received from PR
company, Guy Chapman Associates. It is all about the play, “Effie May,”
described as, ‘a psychological thriller inspired by traditional
Caribbean folklore.’ Effie May was written by the 70-year-old
Grenada-born, Allister Bain and is directed by Dawn Walton (who won the
first Jerwood Young Directors Award at the Young Vic). The press release
describes the play as smouldering, ‘with the heat of Grenada and the
clash between two grasping women.’ It then goes on to say, ‘Effie May
and her husband Theo become embroiled in events that call into question
fidelity, fact and fiction, culminating in a dangerous power struggle
and the revelation of dark desires.’
