TWO SUB-TITLED, CZECHOSLOVAKIAN FILMS BY FILM DIRECTOR, JAROMIL JIRES

Two sub-titled, Czechoslovakian films, directed by Jaromil Jires, are being screened today. They are the politically influenced, “Zert” (The Joke, 80 mins) and the slightly longer, and acclaimed comedy, “Causa Kralik” (Payment in Kind, 83 mins) – and were initially released some 11 years apart, with the former in 1968 and the latter in 1979. With a lot having happened - in the last few years - in this part of Eastern Europe, both films should make interesting viewing. Both are in Czech, with English subtitles.
