Saturday 17 2005, Saturday, 10.30am-8pm (continues until Sunday 18 2005, Sunday, 10.30am-2pm)LAST TWO DAYS TO SEE DORSET-BASED ARTIST, RICHARD HOARE’S, “MEXICO AND FRANCE,” (PLUS SCOTTISH) SOLO SHOW, WITH OVER 40 WORKS, INCLUDING OUR FAVOURITE, “SILVER BIRCH IN FRONT OF RIVER – BRIGHT DAY”In the working
week just finished, we visited two available-to-rent art galleries in
Shepherd’s Market. The first we visited was Gallery 54, currently
hosting the much-travelled, Dorset-based artist, Richard Hoare’s “Mexico
and France,” solo show, with over 40 works on display. We had reviewed
this artist some three years earlier, so it was interesting to see what
new works he had produced… Well, his prices currently range from £185
(just slightly up - from three years ago - for the artist’s less
expensive artwork), for an already-sold linocut edition of 30 entitled,
“Rising,” up to £2,800 for the Mexican-inspired, “Buganvilla against
evening Sky.” Our favourite has to be his, “Silver Birch in front of
river – bright day,” (£1,100) located at the very back of the gallery,
and facing you as you enter the gallery’s rear room. After all, birch is
our favourite tree! And, talking of wood… remember to go down the wooden
stairs, to the gallery’s lower level, where you will see more linocuts
and what we guess to be several charcoal drawings.
Being a lover of
gardens, trees and the like, Hoare’s French-inspired, “L’Hers after Summer
rain,” (£775) caught our interest upstairs. What do you think? Well worth a
visit, particularly if you are inspired by French, Mexican and/or even Scottish
scenery. Yes, we did notice a Scottish riverbank, amongst all the inspiring
works that are on show, for just another few days. So, do hurry along!
