October 13 2005, Thursday, 7pm“VIRTUOSI PIANISTS SERIES,” ORGANISED BY 1950s-ESTABLISHED LONDON FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA, CONTINUES WITH PETER HEWITT PERFORMING CLASSICAL MUSIC (BY COMPOSERS, BEETHOVEN, DITTERSDORF, PROKOFIEV & WAGNER) WITHIN SEVENTEENTH CENTURY CHURCHLast month the
pianist, Sophia Lisovskaya, entertained the St James’s Piccadilly
audience with renditions of classical music pieces by Dittersdorf,
Rachmaninov, Schumann and Sibelius. As part of the same series of
concerts, referred to as the, “Virtuosi Pianists Series,” this month
sees the turn of Peter Hewitt to perform at the same seventeenth century
church. Hewitt is to play pieces by Beethoven (“Piano Concerto No.3”),
Prokofiev (“Piano Sonata No.1 in F minor”), Wagner (“Siegfried Idyll”)
and – as in all six concerts, running throughout the series, which ends
in March 2005 – pieces by the eighteenth century, Viennese composer,
Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (“Symphonies after Ovids Metamorphoses
No.2”). Future concerts in the series see the participation of four
other pianists: Piers Lane (November 2005); Peter Donohue (January
2006); David Owen Norris (February 2006) and Leslie Howard (March 2006).
Artistic director and principal conductor for the series is Ross Pople.
