November 5 2005, Saturday, 7.30pm for 8pmJOIN COWLES, LEGGETT & FRIENDS – TOGETHER WITH AUSTRALIANS, NEW ZEALANDERS & SOUTH AFRICANS – FOR DISCO, LIVE BAND (“THE CHEBBS”) PLUS REFRESHMENTS AT ACTON’S REDBACK TAVERNWe are grateful
for information from Marc Leggett, who helps organise groups of people
to go to interesting social and cultural events around London. This
evening it is Acton, where everybody will be heading. Here is an extract
of what Marc says, in his e-mail message, ‘We will be visiting a very
well known west London Australian pub in Acton, called The Redback
Tavern. This pub is very popular with young Australians, New Zealanders
and South Africans, and there is always a disco and a live band (who are
tonight called The Chebbs). You can meet me and Peter Cowles at Acton
Town Tube Station (Piccadilly and District Lines - Zone 3) from 7.30pm
until we leave promptly at 7.45pm, by the ticket office to walk for
about ten minutes to The Redback Tavern - which is at 264 High Street in
Acton, W3. Peter and I will then meet latecomers outside the pub at 8pm.
Admission to the pub is free before 9pm, and you can look forward to a
very lively southern hemisphere welcome at the Redback Tavern. I am
starting this event slightly later for those of you that would like to
attend Firework displays first - it is Bonfire Night on the 5th
November, and there are many displays all around London. So for
latecomers, if you want to go directly to the pub, buses 207, 266, E3,
427 and 440 go close by, and from Acton Town tube station, you need to
turn right out of the station and walk up Gunnersbury Lane until you
reach a major road junction where Acton High Street meets Gunnersbury
Lane, Uxbridge Road and Steyne Road.
You should then easily find The Redback Tavern at number 264 in the High Street. The pub symbol is a
Spider – the Redback is the most dangerous spider in Australia! The bar
is likely to be crowded, so you may have to wait in line outside, and I
hope that you can easily find our group inside the pub. Food may well be
available at The Redback Tavern, but you may be best to eat beforehand,
just in case the menu is mainly drinks or Aussie bush tucker like
kangaroo (and believe me they do eat them in Australia)!!’ Sounds like
fun! And, remember when you are there to ask the organisers about their
walk along the Lea Navigation Canal in east London, the next day. Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to November 2005 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
