December 31 2005, Saturday, from 3.35pm for 3.45pm onwards PLUS 8.10pm for 8.15pm onwardsBEGINNING WITH, “CHRISTMAS SITES AND LIGHTS TOUR,” FOLLOWED BY VISIT TO ITALIAN CAFÉ IN SOUTH KENSINGTON, LEGGETT & COWLES LEAD GROUP OF THEIR INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS ON TO IRISH PUB, THEN NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS AT NIGHTCLUB, LOCATED EITHER AT LONDON SE1 OR LONDON W8
We are grateful for an e-mail from Marc Leggett, who helps to organise
groups of people to go to interesting social and cultural events around
London. Today most of his events seem to be happening between Hyde Park
Corner and Gloucester Road. Here is an extract of what Marc says, in his
e-mail message, starting with, "The Christmas Sites and Lights Tour," at
3.35pm for 3.45pm start, `If you would like to join us at the start we
have our special seasonal tour led by Peter Cowles, with meeting
arrangements as follows:- Meet Peter and me at Hyde Park Corner tube
station (Zone 1 - Piccadilly Line) - near the ticket office between
3.35pm to 3.45pm to go walking and viewing starting at Hyde Park Corner.
The route will be as follows:- To the south side of Park Lane (for the
Dorchester Hotel lights), along Hamilton Place passing the "Ambassadors
club" lights to the illuminated Wellington Arch, then briefly returning
via Hyde Park Corner to then walk along the whole length of
Knightsbridge but with minor diversions, then passing "Harvey Nicks" and
to our half-way mark - the stunningly lit Harrods - (although only for
viewing outside and not for shopping!) - their window displays are both
lavish and magnificent. For the 2nd half of the walk we then go around
the back of Harrods and continue via Beauchamp Place, then head along
Brompton Road and Cromwell Road to finish at the Natural History Museum
grounds in South Kensington (to view their spectacular new ice-skating
rink and to visit their outdoor Christmas fayre - both of which will be
open on New Years Eve with free entry). There are several outdoor and
indoor cafe-toilet facilities available here. There will be lots of
great seasonal views and some surprises along the way with the whole
tour taking in total 1 to 1½ hours proceeding at a steady pace! No prior
booking or charges are required.' The series of events progresses on to
a visit to the South Kensington Café Romana (between 5.30pm and 6.30pm)
then to Kavanaghs Irish pub (from 6.50pm).
The fourth part of the interesting series of events sees the large group
of people split to go to one of two nightclub venues. Leggett continues,
`We will leave Kavanaghs at the latest time of 8pm to go to our
respective venues, but we will briefly meet at Gloucester Road tube
(Zone 1 - District, Circle & Piccadilly Lines) - near the ticket office
between 8.10pm to 8.15pm before proceeding to either Bar Cuba -
(organised by Peter and located at 11 High Street, Kensington, W8) OR "Auberge"
- (organised by me and located at 30 Tooley Street, London Bridge, SE1)
- also note that both Peter and I will be at the meeting point at
Gloucester Road tube. Those remaining are of course welcome to stay on
at "Kavanaghs", but for a special night we suggest that you join in with
one of the night-club parties.' On an important note, Leggett also adds,
`Note that if you are interested in attending one of the night-clubs
please do try to come along to a meeting point to join up with the
leaders as later arrival on New Years Eve is likely to cause
difficulties due to large numbers getting into the clubs - (of course if
you have booked for "Auberge" you will already be on their entry guest
list and you may prefer to arrive there later, and we suggest that for "Auberge"
you print-off their email confirmation although this is not essential).'
Sounds like plenty of fun, for plenty of people and an excellent way to
see in the New Year! Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to December 2005 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
