enthusiastic speech, to open the exhibition, the Georgian Ambassador
talked about the bright colours, spirituality and one of the animals,
which form a major part of Mamuka Mikeladze’s current exhibition. Since
1984, Mikeladze has had exhibitions in Baku, Berlin, Bolzano, Bremen,
Montpellier, Moscow, Ontario, Paris, Vienna, Washington DC, as well as
several in his native Tbilisi. Another speech followed the Ambassador’s
speech. This time it was given by the managing director of a jewellers
(we think!). The second speech outlined the joy, sunshine, light and
life which Mikeladze’s artworks are full of, as well as helping to
answer one of the questions we had about one of Mikeladze’s pictures.
The question was about why Adam, himself, did not figure in the artist’s
picture, “Eva+Adam” (£3,800, 95 x 95), which is located on the lower
ground floor? You will have to go along, to discover the answer for
yourself. And while you are downstairs, take a look at the identically
priced and identically sized, “Pegasus,” just beside it. Isn’t it
wonderful? On the wall opposite you will see one of our favourites,
called, “Shakespeare,” which happens to be the largest piece in the
exhibition, measuring a good 135 x 135. The price is £6,500, which is
reasonable, considering its size. Prices for other works, range from
£1,900 each, for “Dream” and “Nude” (each measuring 60 x 60) up to
£6,000 (for, “Henry VIII,” measuring 100 x 100). So, there is something
for every size of pocket as well as for every size of wall! And not only
that, there is something for enthusiasts of every type of living
creatures, whether it be a bird (like an eagle or peasant), a wild
animal (like a bull or lion) or something more domesticated. Home, in
the broad sense of the word, could be suggested by the two paintings,
which focus on motherhood.
Then again “Genoa” and
“Vienna” (as seen in the exhibition’s colour catalogue) might suggest, ‘home,’
especially for our Italian and Austrian readers! Horses seem to play a major
role in some of Mikeladze’s acrylics and oils, as do angels and dreams. Could
there be a mythological or spiritual connection? You will have to go along to
the Cork Street venue and discover more for yourself. One place - where there is
a connection - is with the wonderful portrait Mikeladze has done, showing a
green-eyed lady. It is the already-sold, “Tiko” (£3,000, 60 x 50). You probably
would not be surprised to hear that there was a lady, who attended the
exhibition’s opening reception, who is the splitting image of the Mikeladze
masterpiece. After all, life-drawing artists are generally doing portraits all
the time! But this one is different! It is so well done, with beautiful green
eyes. You can see this masterpiece, as well as many other of the artist’s
artworks, if you visit today – the last day of Mamuka Mikeladze one-week
exhibition. It also happens to be his first UK show, some two decades after the
46-year-old father of two started exhibiting. Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to December 2005 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
