April 20 2006, Thursday, 10am-6pm (ends on May 3 2006, Wednesday, 10am-6pm)AFTER MAJOR SHOWS AT WHITECHAPEL ART GALLERY PLUS, MORE RECENTLY, AT MADRID’S REINA SOFIA GALLERY, IT IS LAST FORTNIGHT FOR TOBIAS REHBERGER’S CURRENT EXHIBITION, AT HAUNCH OF VENISON, JUST OFF BROOK STREET
In an exhibition, which has been on since April 7 2006, we were briefly
exposed to the works and fans of the German-born, Tobias Rehberger, who
- as the press release, issued by the art gallery hosting the event,
states - is, ‘one of the most prominent artists of his generation.’ Must
be good, we thought! Well, we turned up for the private view but,
unfortunately, with one of the artist’s large installations (named “The
World next door to outside”) plus the large crowd that were present, did
not manage to get much further than the bottom of the steps, near the
entrance of the street-level gallery. So, what of the artist? And what
of his installations? Well, born in the mid-sixties, we learnt that he
has had a couple of major shows… at Whitechapel Art Gallery, two years
ago, and - only last year, at Madrid’s Reina Sofia Gallery. The release
helped us out, stating, ‘Rehberger produces futuristic environments that
play with light, space, furniture, signage and clothing, inspired by
design classics and modernist art history.
Sociable, interactive, utopian and playful, his work thrives on chance
connections, unexpected encounters and the gaps between communication
and understanding.’ Go along and see for yourself, that, which we did
not manage to fully see! Promote YOUR event, for free! | Return to April 2006 ArchivesSubscribe to, "hteL FREE-TO-ATTEND," only £59.80 per annum |
