BEFORE TWO-WEEK STINT AT ARCOLA THEATRE, VISIT CAMBERWELL’S BLUE ELEPHANT THEATRE FOR LAST WEEK OF STAGESPELL THEATRE COMPANY’S PRODUCTIONUNDER LIISA SMITH’S DIRECTION - OF ESTONIAN PLAYWRIGHT, JANN TÄTTE’S PLAY, “THE HIGHWAY CROSSING / A TALE OF A GOLDEN FISH,” STARRING TALENTED EDINBURGH-BORN ACTOR, GARY MACKAY (DR ANGUS MUNRO IN “EMMERDALE”), PLUS… SKILFULLY LEADING AUDIENCE UP TO INTERVAL CLIFFHANGER… FAYE HUNTER (ATTRACTIVE ACTRESS, SEEN IN “SEAN OF THE DEAD”), CAL SAVILLE (SOON TO BE SEEN IN, “THE TERMINUS”) PLUS ARCHIE WHYLD, GRADUATE FROM EAST LONDON’S ACADEMY DRAMA SCHOOL

We attended the press night for The Highway Crossing / A Tale of a Golden Fish, and thoroughly enjoyed it – especially leading up to (and after) that interval cliffhanger, magnificently acted by a well cast team of actors, who only had six weeks of rehearsals to learn all hundreds of lines as well as get all those timings, twitchings and shivers just… wonderfully… right. The press release reveals more about the billions of chills and thrills one can expect from the very beginning, ‘The Highway Crossing by contemporary Estonian playwright Jaan Tätte comes to the Blue Elephant Theatre this month. Produced as a hit film in its home country, fellow Estonian Liisa Smith will direct its UK premiere, believed to be the first Estonian play to be produced in the UK. What would you do for a billion dollars? Give up the woman you love? What would you do for four billion dollars? Move in with a man you have only just met? What if the money came from a fish? Would you be hooked?

The Highway Crossing follows a young couple as they embark on an evening they will never forget… A witty and dark piece about human nature and the choices we are forced to make at a moment’s notice.’ Last, but not least, the designer is James Perkins and music is by Jaanus Putting. So, go along and see this recommended production and, at the same time, discover more about what The Guardian newspaper refers to as being, ‘Camberwell's coolest venue.’
